Sydney’s Iconic Haymarket Yum Cha Spot ‘Zilver’ Will Close Next Month

How sad is this – another Sydney Chinatown icon is closing. Many Sydney-siders were devastated when Marigold closed its doors and now Zilver will also cease to exist from February 13. The owners of Zilver said the decision to close is irreversible, and in a recent statement said:

...due to the building’s plan for the site’s reconstruction and redevelopment for office space.

This decision is irreversible and to depart from the most popular venue after 30 years of glorious and great effort [and] achievement is devastating for us, Zilver says.

It is hard to comprehend the owner‘s decision to abandon its loyal and long-term tenant.

Having opened its doors in 1993, Zilver has been renowned for its delicious cantonese cuisines and its yum cha. However, they do have a second branch in Bondi Junction’s Westfield and the owners of Zilver Henry Tang and wife Chillie also own “The Eight” which is still open and located in Market City.

Regardless, how sad to see the Haymarket branch close after 30 years. If you would like to savour Zilver – Haymarket’s food once more, please go and eat there before February 13.
