Asian Aussies boys play love interests on Asian American film Joy Ride

For those of you who follow what is is happening in the world of Asian American media- you would be aware that the film Joy Ride will be released in theatres across the US on July 7. From research it seems to be the case of the Australia theatre release date as well ( please correct us if we are wrong).

The film was directed and written by Adele Lim ( writer for Crazy Rich Asians) with writers Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and Teresa Hsiao. All 3 are friends and conceptualised the idea of this film over cocktails. They wrote a film that they as Asian American women wanted tow watch – so that is a pretty cool reason.

The premise for Joy Ride is:

When Audrey’s (Ashley Park) business trip to Asia goes sideways, she enlists the help of Lolo (Sherry Cola), her childhood best friend, Kat (Stephanie Hsu), a college friend, and Deadeye (Sabrina Wu), Lolo’s eccentric cousin. Their epic, no-holds-barred experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging and wild debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are.

The awesome part and a reason why we are writing about this is that our Asian Aussie boys plays the love interests – Desmond Chiam as Clarence – Kat’s (Hsu) love interest, Chris Pang as Audrey’s (Park) love interest and Alexander Hodge as ToddKat’s (Hsu) other love interest.

Keep an eye out for when it premieres in Oz, and let us know what you think of it after checking it out.
