ICAC Finds Former NSW MLC Ernest Wong As Corrupt

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has finally delivered their report that states that former Labor NSW MLC Ernest Wong

engaged in corrupt conduct by concealing the illegal political donations and then trying to get one of the fake donors to lie about it.

This has come after a long investigation, hearings, questionings of those working at the Labor NSW HQ etc. The ICAC investigation and the unraveling of Wong started in 2015, when 1000 $100 notes were delivered to NSW Labor offices in a simple grocery plastic bag by property developer Huang Xiangmo.

In 2018, the NSW Electoral Commission referred the case onto ICAC after suspicions were raised when 5 donors made large political donations and stated that they were waiters at a restaurant. From there “Operation Aero” was established to spearhead the investigation where they got into finding out the operations within the “Chinese Friends of Labor”.

NSW Opposition Leader Chris Minns offered some comments about this issue to the media (via MSN News):

“It does show a conspiracy to circumvent transparency laws … we obviously face a big task to rebuild the trust in the run-up to the 2023 NSW election,”

Premier Dominic Perrottet stated that these findings show the important role ICAC plays in exposing corruption and questionable dealings.
