What a sad story this is and one which shouldn’t happen! 60 year old Van Viet Truong has died from injuries after being a good Samaritan and saving a shop owner from allegedly being robbed on Sunday, August 2.

A grocer himself – having owned his own shop for 20 years, Truong was allegedly pushed to the ground whilst fighting the thieves and hit his head and died from his injuries at the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he was taken for treatment.
5 teenagers aged 12, 13, 14 and 15 were arrested and charged with affray, violent disorder, intentionally causing serious injury and intentionally causing injury.

The 15 year old teenager had his charges upgraded to include manslaughter on Thursday 6th August. Another 13 year teenager had charges withdrawn.
Police are currently looking for witnesses and additional footage of the incident – so if you saw something, please contact Crime Stoppers.

Our hearts and minds are with the family and friends of Truong.
