Toddler Ethan Nguyễn Die In Hospital After Hit And Run Incident In Melbourne

What a tragedy for the Nguyen family whose 3 year old son Ethan was tragically hit by a car when he accidentally ran onto a busy road in Melbourne’s West. Emergency services were called to McIntyre Road at about 6.30pm on Thursday amid reports a child had been hit by a car. Police initial investigations indicate that Ethan had run onto the road and was run over by a red sedan traveling north and dragged for 20 -30 metres, and that the driver didn’t stop at the scene. Ethan was sent to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a critical condition and died overnight.

On Friday, a 73 year old woman, who was the driver of the red sedan handed herself into the police. Police said she was cooperating and didn’t appear to be speeding or was under the influence of anything.

Superintendent John Fitzpatrick, spoke to the media about the incident and said (via ABC News):

“Having a quick look at the vehicle, it’s pretty evident that you would know that you’d hit something, whether that driver knew that they’d hit a child or something else is still to be determined so that’ll form part of the investigation,”

“As you can imagine the family are absolutely overwhelmed with the death of that young child, so we’ll provide them with all the support and welfare they need from our perspective, but they currently have family and friends around them,”

“Losing a beautiful young child like that is going to be devastating.”

Police are asking for witnesses and dash cam footage of the incident for their investigations. Also the 73 year old woman has been released from the police, pending further investigations.

RIP young Ethan, may you Rest In Peace.
