In a contemporary sense, the housing market in Australia has been weaponised against anyone of Asian and/or Chinese descent with ridiculous headlines that imply Australia’s housing problems need to be blamed on Asian/Chinese buyers.

In reality the buyers who turn up to auctions and/or buy property in Australia with Asian/Chinese heritage are permanent residents and/or citizens – they are like any other permanent resident and/or citizens of Australia buying property and/or attending auctions. Due to the fear of global Chinese dominance and the yellow peril – anyone who is Chinese and/or Chinese looking get lumped in the media

To demonstrate the racism, hate and bias, here are few headlines from headlines. Let us know what you all think.

And in the world of lazy journalism (if you can even call it that), the Daily Mail did a piece on the housing crisis, placing blame on “Chinese buyers”, just a week ago. The images they used on portraying auctions are the exact same images used in a similar article back in 2016. Check this out!

The final point of this piece which needs to be mentioned is the impact of this type intentional racism/sinophobia on the domestic Asian/Chinese community in Australia. Being a visible minority in Australia, these type of rubbish journalism makes the community a target for racial attacks and being perceived as “disloyal” – all this with the fact that being Asian/Chinese in Australia – the community is already perceived as perpetual foreigners.
