Hoa Xuande Takes The Lead Role In HBO/A24’s “The Sympathizer”

Now, this is major news and quite awesome in my opinion. Hoa Xuande has scored the lead role in “The Sympathizer”. This series is an adaptation of Viet Thanh Nguyen’s 2016 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name.

He will be playing “The Captain” – a conflicted North Vietnam spy who has been living and working in the Vietnamese refugee community of Los Angeles. The series is produced and co-stars Robert Downey Jr and is considered as a satirical thriller. The casting process was global and went for 10 month – with Xuande saying on his Facebook post on this news:

“30 pages, 9 scenes, 8 months, 6 callbacks including 2 flights, 2 countries, and 2 screen tests, it finally happened. WTF?!”

“The Captain” is the narrator and the series will focus on his life being exiled in the US as a half Vietnamese and Half French spy who was doing the work for the North as a communist spy in the final days of the Vietnam War. Xuande will star alongside other actors such as Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Vy Le, and Alan Trong.

Production for this series is currently underway in Los Angeles!

Xuande will be awesome in this. He has recently just finished on Paramount’s “Last King of the Cross” and has been in other big projects of Netflix’s Cowboy BebopHungry Ghosts, Ronny Chieng International StudentTop of the Lake: China Girl and Top Knot Detective.

More to come of this I am sure!
