2022 Winter Olympics: An Asian Trifecta Podium For The Men’s 500m Speed Skating

Let’s just admit that this is freaking cool! If you have been following speed skating, you would have seen yesterday that at the men’s 500m event, the podium was filled up by the Asian trifecta of China, South Korea and Japan.

Gao Tingyu of China set a new Winter Olympic record of 34.32 seconds when he won the men’s 500-meter final at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games at the National Speed Skating Oval in Beijing on Saturday.

Cha Min-kyu of South Korea (in 34.39 seconds) and Japan’s Wataru Morishige (34.49) took the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

This is also China’s first men’s speed skating Gold Medal in history and Gao was one of the flag bearers for China during the Opening Ceremony. At Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in 2018, Gao won a Bronze Medal.

Congrats Team China, Team South Korea and Team Japan for taking out this event!
