Asian Australian Women

Sally Sitou MP Features On The Cover Of Vogue Australia

It was already a momentous moment to see Asian Australians like Sally Sitou get elected into Australian Parliament and become the class of 2022. Sitou has occupied the seat for the electorate of Reid since May 2022, and has not only made a very important and significant maiden speech highlighting her parents journey to Australia as refugees from Laos and how she grew up wanting to more people in Parliament looking like her, but she has also been out and about in the community and reflects what the electorate of Reid look like demographically.

Recently, she was featured on the cover of Vogue Australia together with other powerful women – former Labor and now Independent MP for Curtin Kate Chaney and Greens Senator Yamatji-Noongar woman Dorinda Cox – yes a very diverse photo!

Sitou recently expressed on social media her elation on being featured and how this was something she never expected to happen:

On the long list of things I never thought I’d do: featuring in Vogue Australia was definitely on there. And yet here I am alongside some formidable women.

Proving that a woman’s place is in the House (of Representatives), Senate, photoshoot… and wherever else she chooses.

Definitely living a dream of many women and many Asian Australian women!~
