Japanese speed skater Miho Takagi is a well known in the women’s speed track events. At the Beijing Winter Olympics, she has already won 3 Silver Medals, and finally at the Women’s 1000m speed skating event she got the medal she was aiming for and that is Gold. In addition to the Gold Medal she also set a new Olympic Record of 1.13.19, and showed what a champion looks like.
She is a big name in Japan and this is her 7th Olympic medal, four more than any other Japanese athlete, and her second gold to equal the most won by an athlete from her nation. Here are some things she said after her win (via Japan Times):
“When I did get the gold medal, it was like my joy was doubled,”
“Honestly, I think my body is at its limit, not fatigue so much, but I’ve developed a cough, so I think physically I’m borderline and am really thankful I could get through this without any serious issues.”
Takagi’s fellow compatriot Nao Kodaira ( the defending Olympic Silver Medalist), came 10th in the 1000m.
