The Georgia Love saga rages on with more people calling out her casual racism. Despite Love making a “sorry, not sorry” apology, she has not actually addressed her own racial biases, prejudices and casual racism, and has instead deactivated her Twitter account, and disappeared from the Twitter-sphere even though she is known to be a prolific Tweeter.
To read more on this saga, please check out our previous post. Essentially she has made 2 posts which are both offensive jokes towards Asians and has likened pets/animals to Asian/Chinese restaurants insinuating that Asians eat cats and dogs etc – the racist rhetoric which has always existed about Asians but has come out front due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Masterchef judge Melissa Leong who is Singaporean Chinese Australian has come out to say that she felt “betrayed” by Love’s racist joke posts. She said (via news.com.au):
“Casual racism from nice people is possibly the most betraying and insidious kind,”
“Not angry, just completely bummed that this video exists and that it isn’t the first joke of this kind made by her,”
“Georgia, I really hope that your remorse is real and that you grow in the right direction, because this stuff hurts more people, more than you think. We must be allies for each other for a better world for all.”
Since Love has just quit Twitter, does this confirm that she really isn’t sorry? Let us know what you think..
