It really should come as no surprise that Pauline Hanson is at it again with her racism. But it is a common place for her, One Nation Party and her supporters to behave in this uncivilised and disgusting way. It all started early this month when Senator Mehreen Faruqi ( who is also the Deputy Leader for Australian Greens) posted a tweet sending her condolences for the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and the urgency that Australia needs to be a republic, a treaty for First Nations and how racist and oppressive the British Empire was throughout history. All of which is truth.
Condolences to those who knew the Queen. I cannot mourn the leader of a racist empire built on stolen lives, land and wealth of colonised peoples. We are reminded of the urgency of Treaty with First Nations, justice & reparations for British colonies & becoming a republic. – Mehreen Faruqi.
Hanson re-tweeted what Faruqi posted with this:
Your attitude appalls and disgusts me. When you immigrated to Australia you took every advantage of this country. You took citizenship, bought multiple homes, and a job in a parliament. It’s clear you’re not happy, so pack your bags and piss off back to Pakistan. -PH (Pauline Hanson).
The utter racism. If you search online many politicians and personalities have tweeted similar sentiments as Faruqi, but Hanson only went at her, and it begs the question of why. To answer that it is easy and its because Faruqi is of Pakistani background and has brown skin – typical racism.
In an exclusive with The Guardian, Faruqi mentioned that she is considering lodging a Human Right Commission complaint against Hanson and her racism, and said that Parliament should be a safe workplace (via The Guardian):
The kind of racist hate fuelled by these comments cannot go unaddressed. The community, particularly migrants of colour, need to see parliament strongly condemn Senator Hanson without delay,
People who look like me have all been told to go back to where they come from at one point or another. I’ve copped it more times than I can count, but the hurt and sorrow it causes never lessens,
Faruqi said regardless, this incident will not silence her and she challenged Labor and Jackie Lambie ( who initially agreed with Hanson’s sentiments except for the racist part) to support the censure proposed in Parliament against Hanson. Faruqi’s office has also received offensive and threatening emails telling her to kill herself etc.
In response, Hanson instead of admitting her racism and apologising has doubled down, and called Faruqi disrespectful, privileged etc etc (via The Guardian):
Mehreen Faruqi showed extremely poor judgment with her insensitive and highly offensive statement about the Queen and as is so typical of pants-wetting Greens, now that she’s been called out she’s pretending to be a victim. It’s classic ‘Karen’ behaviour: all entitlement and no responsibility, Hanson said.
Mehreen Faruqi is not a victim of anything. Faruqi is just another rich, privileged, out-of-touch Greenie faithfully executing her dear leader’s strategy to disrespect and insult the institutions which have helped make Australia one of the most socially inclusive and diverse nations in the world, including the very institutions which allowed her to come to Australia and make it her home.
More to this saga to come for sure, and good on Faruqi for standing her ground!
