2023 has been a huge year for Asian/Asian Australians in many sectors. The AA124 List honours the 124 Asian/Asian Australians who have had the most impact on Australian culture, society and institutions over the past year. Why 124? Well because as we enter 2024, it is a good way to look back and reflect on the achievements and milestones our Asian/Asian Australian community have made to make our voices heard and be more visible. According to the 2021 Australian Census, 17.4% of Australia’s population have Asian ancestry and this shows a huge growth which will be seen into the future. Please check out our AA124 List.
AA124 List of 2023/4
From boardrooms to all levels of government, TV and movie screens to stage plays and performances, from start-ups to professional sports and those who advocate and mobilise to raise the voices and provide platforms which impact on society – Asian/Asian Australians are changing the rules of culture and ushering in an unparalleled era of excellence. It is high time, we continue to support our Asian Australians who raise the profile and demonstrate that we are no longer the ‘other’/ ‘the perpetual foreigner’ and that we can break the mould and affect change.
Let us continue to have robust dialogue which leads to practical actions, all while celebrating the diversity and authenticity of our Asian/Asian Australian identity and naming loud and proud of who we are.
