Wow this was a very close call. Toowoomba family, 8 year old Kaia and her parents Reyna Nangan and karin have in the last minute had their bridging visas extended after facing deportation, when their latest bid for permanent residency failed.

We recently posted a video where channel 7 news reported about the family receiving the notification that Reyna – who is originally from the Philippines and Karin – originally from Thailand had like a week to leave Australia.

The family have called Toowoomba home for over a decade and young Kaia has only known Toowoomba and Australia as her home. Luckily, they had both the support from the local community and the local MP to keep the family in Australia.

More than 3,500 people have signed a petition calling for ministerial intervention to allow the family to stay permanently. The family is now waiting for Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke to decide their fate.

Let’s hope for a good outcome for this family.
