Playing the elusive Sohpie Baek (previously known as the Lady in Silver – for those who follow Bridgerton), Asian Australian Yerin Ha is really nailed it. In the upcoming season 4 for Netflix’s Bridgerton, Ha has been announced as part of the leading cast.

Her character has a mysterious history and she is a maid who wears a mask ( we will leave that up to your interpretation). Baek captures the heart of Benedict (Luke Thompson) and becomes his love interest – he is the co lead in the upcoming season.

Such an awesome role and how proud are we all for her as Asian Australians. Ha’s career started in 2016, where she appeared as a dancer in the music video I Gotta Have You by Aussie music artists Fluir & Jesse Marantz. Since then her career has sky rocketed acting on the Sydney stage play Lord of the Flies in 2019, cast in a recurring role in 2019’s Reef Break, caast in Paramount + series Halo (2022-2024), in Stan’s Bad Behaviour (2023) where she was nominated for a Logie in the Supporting actress category back in 2023.

In addition to her major leading role in Bridgerton, Ha was also cast in upcoming HBO series Dune: Prophecy which is currently in post-production. With such an extensive CV, it is interesting that Australian media has hardly reported on her. There is an ABC article talking about Ha and Thompson on Bridgerton – but no mention at all that she is Aussie.

It always appears this way in Australia – major international media outlets have reported on her Aussie-ness but unsurprisingly it pretty much crickets back home in Oz. In any case, let’s celebrate this as a win for all of us Asian Australians!

To end, let’s hear from Ha on what drew her to the role of Baek (via Netflix’s Tudum),

“What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles – something that she constantly has to overcome. Whether it’s this battle around social status or trying to hide her feelings from Benedict”.
