No matter how you look at this- it is just not right. Former Greens candidate for Grayndler (yes this is Albo’s – our PM’s seat) at the recent Federal election – Malaysian Australian Hannah Thomas, 35, was seriously injured in her right eye while being arrested at a pro-Palestinian protest in Sydney last week.
The scary thing is she may go blind in her right eye due to the arrest. To top things off police are chasing her with hindering or resisting arrest police officer and refusing to comply with a direction to disperse.
So what actually happened? The protestors alleged that SEC Plating company are supplying components used to make F-35 jets, which are used by the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces). Thomas had to go to hospital to get her injuries treated and the severe injury to her right eye is swollen and not able to be opened.
Her lawyer Peter O’Brien bought her injury to the attention of the media saying that (via ABC News Australia):
“My understanding is that the injury to her eye is very serious and there is a real chance, regrettably and gravely, that she is going to lose an eye.”
So will there be an investigation into the NSW Police officers who caused her injury? Well the NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden said no, but depending on the results of a review on her medical records, this decision may change.
Personally, I think an investigation into the police needs to be conducted. Our prayers are with Thomas as she goes onto the road to recovery.
