Asian Australian JACKIE LEE-JOE Gets Hired By Netflix As Chief Marketing Officer

JACKIE LEE-JOE is not a name we hear around the traps in Australia, but then again when are our names heard in Australia if we are not white right? Anyways, Lee-Joe has made her mark working for the BBC as their chief marketing officer (now former) in the UK, and now will do the same role just with Netflix based in LA. This is something we need to celebrate because more often than not we question ourselves as Asian Australians on where we are in terms of taking up influential and high level managerial positions. Lee-Joe has definitely reached this milestone and her name needs to be put out everywhere possible!

Lee-Joe was hired by Netflix after a 4 month search, and she will oversee a global marketing department with a huge budget. According to Variety in 2018:

The company’s marketing spending jumped 65% in 2018, from $1.44 billion to $2.37 billion. Analysts expect that to grow this year to nearly $2.9 billion (up more than 20%).

Lee-Joe comes with 20 years experience in marketing in the media, technology and telecommunications and with this huge role in Netflix her career will just keep growing. Here is more on Lee-Joe from Variety:

Lee-Joe joined the BBC in November 2015 from Microsoft-owned Skype, where she was global director for audience, entertainment marketing and broadcast media. She has over 20 years of marketing experience with media, technology and telecoms companies including Virgin Mobile, Carphone Warehouse and Orange. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Sydney and a master’s degree in commerce from the University of New South Wales.

“Netflix is a much-loved and respected brand with audiences globally thanks to its rich and varied original programming,” Lee-Joe said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to be joining one of the most creative, dynamic and fearlessly innovative companies in the world.”

Congratulations JACKIE LEE-JOE, and she is someone we will definitely connect with and someone to keep our eye on!
